The taking of “Selfies”, a strange phenomenon in which the photographer of a photo is also the subject of said photo, is growing in popularity on a global level especially with celebrities, tweens, and... attorneys? Not only did the Florida First District Court of Appeals catch this courtroom selfie, now the federal government has even created an official definition in the recent case United States v. Doe, 1:12-CR-00128-MR-DLH, 2013 WL 4212400 (W.D.N.C. 2013). In United States v. Doe, the term "selfie" is defined as "the name given to a self-portrait photograph, "often snapped at odd angles with smartphones[,]" and "typically made to post on social networking website (or sen[t] in a text message)[.]" Id. at n.6 (citing Katy Steinmetz, "The Top 10 Buzzwords of 2012," Time, Dec. 4, 2012, available at http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/12/04/top-10-news-lists/slide/selfie).
